Wargaming
| Bop Moon's Seven Years War game, From Historicon 2008 |
Welcome to Victory Point’s Wargaming section. Here you will find projects concerning with wargaming topics. Wargaming consists of games specifically to game out battles or strategic operations. They can be miniatures based, board games, or other. As editor of the Wargaming section I bring my experience of playing wargames since 1989. I like all periods of history as well as science fiction and fantasy based wargames. Lately with ASGARD I’ve been experimenting with the mix of RPG style story elements with wargaming. I have many wargaming projects that I have completed and I want to use this site to document those to encourage others. I’m also interested in comments on what could have been done better, which improves my art. Finally I am interested in your projects that you’ve documented. I think this site is a great place to showcase such works.
The first project I am doing is one I started in 2005 and ran at Nashcon 2006, Historicon 2006 and Nashcon 2008. The Marco Polo Bridge Incident recreates what is arguably the first battle of WWII. The Japanese fought the KMT and captured Beijing after crossing the Marco Polo Bridge into Wanping. The battle is very interesting because the Japanese are incredibly out-numbered and bringing armor into a dense urban environment. Historically the Japanese won, but in convention play they often run out of time.
Following what I believe to be the best format there will be a page for the project with discussion of history, figures and rules and sub-pages on projects such as how to make the hutongs of Wanping. Pictures detailing every aspect will be used to illustrate the project.
Since the last time I ran it I’ve come across a set of rules I would love to try called Force on Force by Ambush Alley Games. So look for that being added to the project when I get the chance to re-run the game.
